Today is 2026. This song came out in 1983, so 43 years ago. The 1930s ended on 31st December 1939, so 43 years before that. So... the New Order version is (or will be by the time you read this) closer to this version than it is to us. Which is terrifying.

Fun fact: New Order originally arranged this song for saw, wineglass, dulcimer, and Theremin. When they broke one of the wine glasses they redid the arrangement for guitar, synthesizer, and drums, and the rest is history.
