“My grandfather's clock was too large for the shelf,
So it stood ninety years on the floor;
It was taller by half than the old man himself,
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more.
It was bought on the morn of the day that he was born,
And was always his treasure and pride;
But it stopp'd short—never to go again—
When the old man died.

Ninety years without slumbering
(tick, tick, tick, tick),
His life seconds numbering,
(tick, tick, tick, tick),
It stopp'd short—never to go again—
When the old man died.”
—Henry Clay Work

I don't think the clock was the real thing she repaired... she fixed an 11-year-old heart that everyone else had already declared beyond repair.

I like the clarity and precision of thought and word that cuts through the manipulation of power and truth.

What a lovely story, shame about the typically jealous sister.

Lovely story. Interesting how the beautiful daughter, in so many stories, cannot tolerate the success and happiness of someone else! I wonder if those beautiful women ever experience true love?

So it took one afternoon to extract a integral part of mechanism and hide it in a carefully constructed false panel but then it took 4 weeks to fix and 3 weeks to fix and The timeline in this one is whack. Pretty good story but attention to detail would make it better

You don't kneel to work on a grandfather clock taller than a man. The mechanism is entirely at the top, behind the dial.
Not clear who dies eleven years before. First it was his father, then his wife, then his father. Make up your mind.
