Somebody has to report Spider-Man in order for it to show up on the Spidey tracker. I think that Ned is actually on the liferaft with Spider-Man because of his magical abilities that are going to play some kind of role in the movie.

Well, in Secret Wars, he (Spider Man) along with a bunch of others were teleported to space. Some of those people he was teleported to space with are in Doomsday, so I would take this with a grain of salt.
