The LAPPSET Project started before 2013. President Mwai Kibaki is the one who pushed for this project. The Presidents that came after are continuing with developing the project

This is fantastic journalism. It’s super encouraging to see such a well researched and superbly presented documentary. Africans are telling there stories rather than having stories told about them by outsiders.
Africa is indeed rising.

Keep up the great work!

The Lappset corridor was a Kibaki initiative. He was a great economist and understood the importance of opening up the neglected northern parts of the country by rail and road - especially after the discovery of oil in Turkana. I think that the transportation of heavy goods should predominantly be done by rail because it is cheaper and can be done at greater volume. Also, it doesn't need regular maintenance of the surface, something most African governments are not good at.
The bigger question here is security: remember the incursions by terrorists from Somalia that we experienced more than a decade ago. Unfortunately, Lamu is very close to the border with Somalia therefore all three countries will have to cooperate closely on securing the port, road and rail network.

Most of the projects within LAPSET transport corridor in kenya are almost finished; the road from Nairobi - Isiolo - Marsabit up to Moyale on Ethiopia border is finished, the Lodwar - Kakuma - Lokichogio - Nadapala up to south sudan border is complete, the only section remaining is from Garissa to Lamu which is under construction. The biggest challenge to LAPSET transport corridor is border disagreements between south sudan and Kenya which delayed completion of Juba - Lokichogio section. There is also need to expand, enlarge and expand the Ethiopia section from Moyale to Hawassa city.
Nelson
Uganda

If the government of kenya has a will to make Lamu grow faster, they should build new sgr from Lamu to Nairobi and this time electric one: By doing this it will fasten the Lamu's population and trade too
