  I&apos;m french and I remember in 1st grade (in America) we were telling the class how we sayed cotton candy in our language it came to my turn and I sayed daddys beard the teacher didn&apos;t believe me until she searched it up

  According to my friend who is an expat in France, &nbsp;think the thing about the French being nice about speaking English is that you tried to speak French first. It was his biggest piece of advice when I visited: the French can&apos;t stand people who come to their country and don&apos;t even try to say the most basic things in the local language. But if they can see you&apos;re making an effort, they&apos;ll happily speak English to you. I certainly found this to be true.
