If Trump can order a coal power plant to stay open for whatever reason, he could reorder the reopening of a California refinery tomorrow. Valero stopped fuel production at its Valero Benicia Refinery in April 2026, following a phased idling of its processing units

The answer isn't for the northeast to build more natural gas pipelines, it's to install more heat pumps that are 3 to 5 times more energy efficient than a gas furnace! This way even if your grid still has fossil fuels on it you are less exposed. That's the only way to reduce and eventually eliminate your risk to fossil fuel price spikes that happen every five years.
