  Brian's creativity as a musician is one of the reasons why I became a Rolling Stones fan in 1979 and continue to be one today. The colors he added to their sound with the different instruments he played were incredible. He could improve a good song by adding an instrument like a dulcimer, marimba, recorder, or mellotron - and he did it many times. He was one of the pioneers of World Music and he was the first Stone to compose a film score. He was one of the great fashion icons of the 1960s music scene. Lets us also not forget how he broke his arse in the early days by writing letters to record labels and music journalists trying to get exposure for the band. He also went around to the London clubs encouraging the owners to book the Stones for early gigs before they became famous. His role in the Rolling Stones was HUGE.

  When he was with the group,b, they had such a melodious quality. Beautiful ballads, in addition to their rockers. Just listen to a great album such as &quot;Aftermath&quot;, and you&apos;ll hear such a complimentary variety of styles. <br><br>With Brian, you&apos;d get beautiful songs such as &quot;Backstreet Girl.&quot; Since he&apos;s been gone, the variety of those older albums has sadly been missing.

  Brian placed an ad in a newspaper, but Ian Stewart was the recruiter, the organizer and the logistics mastermind.<br>While Brian wanted to be the leader, he lacked the stability to actually manage people.<br>He secured their first rehearsal space. That was it.<br>Brian negociated extra £5 per gig just for being the &quot;leader&quot;.<br>When the rest of the band found out that probably marked the true beginning of Brians alination from the group.<br>Brian was a great muscician. He arranged songs, contributed in many wsys, but never wrote a single song all by himself. Mick and kieth wrote the songs.<br>It was Stu&apos;s band. That&apos;s Keith&apos;s perspective, and I think Charlie and Mick would agree.

  Anyone &nbsp;who is a fan of the Stones from their 1960s period knows how important Brian Jones was on a lot of the songs. Slide on Little Red Rooster and I Just Can&apos;t Be Satisfied, Lead Guitar on Last Time, &nbsp;Sitar on Paint it Black, Marimba on Under My Thumb, incredible Soprano Sax on Dandelion and of course my favourite the Recorder on Ruby Tuesday. Neither underated or overrated.

  The Stones produced great records consistently into the early 80s. &nbsp;However, its been said, and I agree, that in throws of psychedelia, and competing with the Beatles, it was Jones that provided the flourishes that helped the band create the sound of the times. &nbsp;For the 60&apos;s, his contributions were essential.

  I was 21 the year Brian died and I was living in South Ken in London and went to the Stones Hyde Park Concert tripping on Acid.. <br>I remember it like it was yesterday as nobody I knew had died at that time except old Grannies or Uncles but never one of our own generation, we were all stunned.<br>Its often said that the brightest light burns out the fastest... That was Brian Jones..
