Climate Action Month 2026 Transport Q&A Live Lesson

Join us for a Q&A with Rosie Leslie, a senior policy advisor from Transport Scotland, working in the Climate Change and Just Transition team and Stephen Rennie, who works for UrbanFox to install on street electric car chargers in Scotland. Rosie and Stephen answer all your questions about climate action and sustainable transport, including what the government is doing to reduce transport emissions and how you can help. 00:00 Introduction 03:55 What does Transport Scotland think are the key ways we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from domestic transport? 05:17 What is Urban Fox’s role in helping to make some of these changes happen? 06:50 What is already being done to make transport more sustainable? 08:10 What is the biggest barrier when trying to create the most sustainable forms/uses of transport possible? 12:28 How does transport contribute to climate change? 14:33 How important do you think walking/cycling are compared to electric vehicles and public transport? 16:49 What means of transport has the biggest impact on climate change? 18:01 Research says electric vehicles are extremely detrimental to the environment when being manufactured. Do you take this into account, and if so, how does it effect the work your doing? 21:13 What do you think/hope transport will look like in the next decade or two? 24:46 How do you make sure that sustainability policies are effective but also affordable for the public? 28:55 What has happened to fossil fuels usage over the years and do you think Scotland is currently on track to meet its sustainability targets? E.g net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. 30:48 Many young people, specifically young girls, feel unsafe walking home therefore would rather getting picked up by car or taking the bus. What schemes have been considered to help the younger generations to feel more at ease when travelling alone? 32:09 Climate change is usually put in such a negative light. As someone who works closely to topic such as the environment, how do you stay positive in what you are doing? 34:48 After doing a bit of research about urban fox it says that you have 191 charging points and have saved 3578kg carbon dioxide saved. What challenges did this cause and how do you measure/estimate the amount of carbon dioxide saved? 37:00 How did you get into the job roles you are currently in? 40:20 Resources to take learning further Following the lesson, take part in our Collective Climate Action Challenge and use our follow up classroom resources to take learning further.
