I prefer the Prefounte. Doesn't dry when capped, unlike the Kakuno. Prefounte is also eyedropperable.

Haven’t tried the Prefounte. Was in a stationary store at Japantown in SF, and by the register was a kiosk of Kakuno’s. Figured, for $15.00 what do I have to lose? Went to grab a bite, opened it and was BLOWN AWAY!!! LOVE the Kakuno and will give as gifts for someone’s first fountain pen!

Yes right out of the box--nib was terrible and I could never get the ink to flow and No ! I did not send it back. Instead it went to the recyclable storage area. Never to be seen again. No Platinum Prefonte for me.
Kakuno all the way. I can cartridge it, converter it, and eyedropper it. Writes so well.

Nice review. I will pick the Prefounte, looks better and has a clip.

The Kakuno has a fantastic EF nib. The EF is better than EF nibs on pens that cost 15 or 20 times more. The only pen that I own that has an EF that is as good is my Vanishing Point EF,

I bought Kakuno for more than double the price of Prefounde and yet the Prefounde will write even after 5+ months lying around in a drawer while Kakuno will dry out. More over I can swap the Prefounde nibs with those of the very economical Preppies! So for the price of a Kakuno I could have a Prefounde plus a couple of Preppies to play around with and be sure they will be ready to write any time needed. Nothing in the Kakuno motivates that price difference!

Great video ! I really like the Kakuno. I am left handed and bought the medium nib. Writes very smooth for me. I have only the used the cartridge that came with it.
