  Stoffel was hand reared and when he was given up by his original owner, he was allowed to roam free at the animal sanctuary that became his new home. But he continuously caused chaos among the staff and guests, killed several other animals and eventually got mauled by a lion, and once recovered, went in for a rematch. He never tried to escape into the wild. So eventually they had to lock him up for his own safety and the safety of the other animals. <br><br>Honey badgers typically live around eight years in the wild. Stoffel was still alive last year at the grand old age of 27, living comfortably with the same mate featured in the video. There&apos;s no reason to feel sorry for him being locked up. As a captive-bred animal, he wouldn&apos;t have survived very long in the wild anyway and had no interest in escaping other than to get into other places at the sanctuary.

  They don&apos;t mention it in this video but on one of his escapes Stoffel got into a lion pen and picked a fight. He was mauled fairly badly but once he recovered the next time he escaped he went right back for round 2 with the lions.
