Greek people were simply indifferent towards Elisabeth of Romania. The one they really hated deeply was Frederica of Hannover, wife of King Paul.

Royal families did that all the time: marry their children for dinastic purposes. Marie was married at 17 to Ferdinand, they were two opposite characters. Elisabeth was too haughty and cold, probably because of old king Carol I separating her and her brother Carol from their parents when very young, to be educated according to his strict Prussian principles. The younger children were closer to their parents. Anyway, I don't see why she was hated, as she never stayed much in Greece. After George was first exiled, she never returned to Greece. She was queen of Greece for less than 2 years.

I think your viwe on her life is too strict too be correct! You have also the perspective of a man who doesn t give her much credit anyway.i think you forgot the grey areas and feminine restraints og her time and thw wounds attached that defined her trajectory
