Sir Ludovik Kennedy sounded like a very nice kind person: a good sailor & gentleman. God bless him. Humility mixed with sadness with his fine recollections of this epic battle.

Oh please, HMS TARTAR Was a Tribal Class Destroyer Built in 1936. Not a Battleship. Ludovic Kennedy`s Father was Edward Coverley Kennedy commanded HMS Rawalpindi an Armed Merchant Cruiser. On its Northern Patrol on the 23rd of November 1939 Rawalpindi met the German Battle Cruiser Scharnhorst along with the Gneisenau trying to break out into the Atlantic. The Rawalpindi was able to report their contact course and speed with the German Heavy Units. Captain Kennedy then engaged the German Ships and of course was completely outgunned. Ludovic`s Father along with 275 his crew went down with their ship.

With respect to Kennedy, he would have been aware when this recording was made that the Bismarck was well on her way to being sunk and the reason the scuttling charges went detonated was to hasten the end so there was no chance of boarding and nabbing anything that wasn't destroyed

Even Ballard, not exactly known for being generous to the RN when investigating underwater wrecks says that she went down because of the gun and torpedo action...
