  It's funny because I've never seen Moana, nor am I the target market expected to like it. But ALL the critic reviews were talking about how amazing and beloved the original was, how it was a 10/10 masterpiece. But this new one is awful because it's exactly the same. Most confusing reviews I've read 🤣

  I agree, I never liked Moana. Some of the music is good, the colorful animation is nice, but her as a character bothered me. &nbsp;Personal opinion of course. It drives me crazy how modernized the dialog has been in the recent Disney movies. Kids may be the target audience, but they also appreciate eloquent and elevated and era appropriate dialog.<br><br>(Editing to add this in)<br>Totally agree about the lack of and reinvention of villains. It drives me crazy.

  From the day I saw the original Moana, I&apos;ve silently thought it was average at best. Besides the gorgeous animation and the music (which isn&apos;t really my taste), I always though the best part of the whole movie was the vibe shift partway through the song &quot;Shiny.&quot; It felt like a classic Disney villain taunting the hero about their flaws or traumatic pasts, with a similar feel to &quot;Poor Unfortunate Souls&quot; from the Little Mermaid, Jafar&apos;s twisted reprise of &quot;Prince Ali&quot; from Aladdin, or &quot;Friends on the Other Side&quot; from Princess and the Frog, or even the tone that &quot;Mother Knows Best&quot; from Tangled was subverting. But the movie wanted you to see the character singing &quot;Shiny&quot; (Tamatoa) as little more than a funny and mildly inconvenient obstacle instead of a villain on par with Ursula, Jafar, Dr. Facilier, or Mother Gothel. And the target of that brief moment of villainous mockery was also meant to be a joke, but in a more &quot;funny sidekick&quot; way instead of the hero or even mentor figure he could have been.

  It&apos;s weird how Hollywood is so deeply, obsessively invested in the girlboss narrative, isn&apos;t it? If there was any lingering doubt that the studios are controlled by CIA propagandists and billion-dollar special interest lobbies, this should dispel it.

  Well, for the ladies reading this, don&apos;t even think about relating to Moana anymore. She&apos;s a girlboss since day one, especially in Moana 2 (2024) and its ugly 2026 remake. Don&apos;t trust Disney for this.

  You opened my eyes. I thought there was something off about Moana but never saw the girl boss trope. Probably because Moana was not like other girl boss characters in that Moana was not arrogant or entitled. But yes we never see Moana fail at anything or have to change.

  The point about villains is great. I write flawed heroes and villains with justifications - but its also adult fiction - trying to bring &apos;misunderstood&apos; villains into children&apos;s stories muddies the water and creates confusion.
