Both of my parents were Hungarian refugees. My father was from Sopron, my mother, from Budapest. I was born, and live in the United States and have only visited Hungary as a child. I understand and speak Hungarian, and read it, a little, but cannot write it. During my parents' generation, the Finno-Ugric theory was popular, but since then, more genetic and linguistic evidence is available. I am very interested in history and archeology, and enjoyed this video... It is scholarly, thorough, and avoids far-fetched speculation.

The following foreign statement is interesting, which is consistent with the ancient chronicles of the Hungarians:
Leo Speidel and others: High-resolution genomic history of early medieval Europe
„Present-day populations of Hungary do not appear to derive detectable ancestry from early medieval individuals from Longobard contexts, and are instead more similar to Scythian-related ancestry sources (Extended Data Fig. 6.), consistent with the later impact of Avars, Magyars and other eastern groups.”

Kende was the name of the sacral leader position, and the name of the military leader position was Gyula. These were positions, not first names then, but now both are used as first names.

Learned a little Hungarian and did some research on the origins of the Magyar language. Fascinating the history as it isn't so centralized. Unique language that has maintained throughout the ages that resembles nothing in the vicinity except maybe a bit of Finnish.
Very difficult language to learn coming from a native English speaker.

After king St István Hungry was officially recognised as a kingdom in Europe and not just a principality! The status was recognised by both the Bizantine emperor and Rome by each sending a crown to St István as a simbolic recognition of his title.
