  Ok, pilot here to correct some things. The phone and fuel sections are completely wrong and misleading. First, your plane has enough extra fuel to loiter for hours AND make it to an alternate. Has to have extra per FAA regulations. And the phone airplane mode thing is so outdated. Your pilots have tablets and other devices going the whole flight.

  PAN, as in the urgency signal PAN-PAN, is not an acronym. It comes from the French word, <i>panne,</i> which means &quot;breakdown,&quot; as in a mechanical failure. It is similar to how MAYDAY derives from the French, <i>m&apos;aider,</i> or &quot;come help me.&quot; Like a lot of aviation terms, these have been inherited from nautical practice.<br><br>And, as far as squawk codes go, 7500 means &quot;special emergency,&quot; aka, &quot;air piracy,&quot; 7600 means &quot;communications failure,&quot; and 7700 is the general emergency code. Any discrete code of 76xx or 77xx will set off alarms in air traffic control facilities but only the nondiscrete code 7500 is interpreted as air piracy. Also, never squawk 7777, as that is reserved for military interceptor operations.<br><br>A useful mnemonic for the emergency transponder codes is, &quot;Seven-seven, going to Heaven; seven-six, need it fixed; seven-five, taken alive.&quot;

  Don&apos;t know about other countries, but in the UK, crew will continue first aid until a paramedic or doctor can take over. We can&apos;t assume a passenger has died. So we will divert to the nearest suitable airport, whilst continuing CPR.

  Yeah, a few days ago I was working in cargo terminal when there is one big crate of cargo coming. I kinda already expected what it was, but still had to ask the handler. And yes it&apos;s Human Remain cargo or HUM as the code for the cargo... Sometimes it&apos;s come as cremated ash, but sometimes it also on coffin crate.

  The pilots and cabin crew drink the same coffee and water as offered to the passengers. If there was an actual health concern the FAA would not allow that water to be consumed.

  If the plane loses pressure and you don&apos;t put your mask on in time, you will black out, then wake up a minute or two later after the pilot has descended, and you&apos;ll be fine. A more interesting fact is that those masks are not fed from an oxygen tank. They&apos;re connected to chemical &quot;oxygen generators&quot; which burn incredibly hot and produce oxygen.<br><br>So if you put your mask on and you smell burning, don&apos;t worry. It&apos;s just the dust burning off the casing above your head, the plane is perfectly fine. &nbsp;And cabin pressure doesn&apos;t affect landing at all, so your plane will land normally and you&apos;ll be collecting your luggage in a few minutes.<br><br>A loss of cabin pressure is an emergency, but it&apos;s nothing to panic about. Modern planes are INCREDIBLY safe. Fly in peace!
