I live in a wheatbelt area where, if you run into a swarm, grasshoppers/locusts can block radiators almost instantaneously. We use double-layer shade cloth stretched and cable-tied across the radiator grille to keep the radiators clear. Brush/hose the cloth off daily. Doesn't look pretty but, in conjunction with the advice given here, it helps prevent a cooked engine.
