I loved this story. The FL was lucky that the Duke didn't think that people should keep their place in society. I'm glad that she didn't keep the place that other people felt she should stay at, but decided to marry the Duke and become his wife. I've never understood how people can think that everyone should live at a certain level in society, I've always felt that we are all on the same level doing the kind of work that we choose to do. In this way everyone contributes to society and then everyone is happy. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story.

In this story, calling the lady of the manor "Duchess" is an error. As the Duke is single, she must be either his mother or his widow sister-in-law. In either case, her title couldn't be Duchess. She was the Dowager Duchess. Calling her Duchess made the listeners think she's the Duke's wife. Which couldn't be the truth because the Duke spent every night in the kitchen talking to Lillias before proposing marriage to her. See how messed up that was?

Sometimes a bowl of soup and buttery toast is all you need after a very bad day or days.😊

As one old master once said : to say "I can try" means "I apologise for having failed"

There's so much wrong with this story. Let's start with the fact that, while she was in charge and would've used her recipes, she wouldn't have cooked that whole meal, herself. There would have been an entire kitchen staff - head cook, pastry cook, saucier cook, roast cook, assistants..... She also wouldn't have been watching while they ate. At no time would she have left the kitchen unless she was summoned.

And as has been said already, a duke couldn't marry a servant. They'd both be ostracized. You get the idea.
