Fun Fact: Sokka's schedule seen in episode 3 was actually the production schedule the studio had for ATLA.

I like to think 100 years ago Kuzon was just messing with Aang getting him to believe the common slang was "Flamey-o, Hotman"😂

I love how Ozai and Hakoda are so similar in a lot of aspects. Two kids, an older boy who struggles a lot, a younger girl who's naturally gifted, hasn't seen their kids in years...and yet they're polar opposites. Hakoda loves his kids no matter what. Ozai loves using his kids.

I will never get tired of the running gag of them saying "Oh thats some good stuff," and pretending to take notes on how to be smooth lmao

Small detail in episode 2 is how the textbooks are teaching propaganda. If I remember correctly, they frame the genocide of the air nomads as a return of aggression. They are teaching a history that paints them as always right in their efforts to conquer. Really goes into that idea that history is written by the victor.

Kuzon has meaning to Aang but also to the show, as Kuzon is who Aang is referring to in the Blue Spirit episode. He's the friend he would visit in the Fire Nation and tried to appeal to Zuko with that friendship. It all comes full circle, and I thought it was a very sweet moment <3

Another fun fact: Sokka has trained with the fighting styles of all four nations, and thus represents the best abilities of the non-bending world. Book 1 we saw him train with the Kioshi Warriors in an Earth style and at the Northern Air Temple with the inventor using a passive intellectual approach representative of the Air Nomads. Book 2 he trained with his father and the other warriors from the Southern Water Tribe. And here we see him training with a Fire Nation sword master.

A very obvious, but still fun detail is that the turtle ducks swim away the moment they notice Azula. Reference to the Zuko Alone flashback where Zuko shows his mom how Azula plays with them aka throws a rock at one of the babies.

Ozai was probably actually completely stunned at the legendary achievement of his children. Yes, he is a horrible person, but one can only imagine how proud and astonished he was when he heard that out of nowhere, his daughter and son slayed the avatar and captured Ba Sing Se single-handedly.

Sokka's Master is one of my all-time favorite episodes. It cemented Sokka as my favorite character. In my opinion, he has the best overall character arc. Go watch episode 4 of season 1 again and see how egotistical he is. Rewatch this one and see how humble he has become. He admits to having traveled the entire world but still is still unsure if he is worthy. Piandao saw a worthy warrior and an honest and humble heart. A tactical and creative mind. This was the episode that changed his entire character for me. It also gives me hope that even when surrounded by insanely smart and talented people, I can still be useful, appreciated, and worthy. Sokka himself gives me hope.

The painted lady episode hits close to home for me too.
The circumstances are different but the effects are the same.
Companies and individuals are destroying water bodies and lands in their indiscriminate search for gold in Ghana.
Unscrupulous foreign nationals and locals who have no regard for the environment do whatever they want to make their money; while government and local officials do little to stop the menace.

One of the few genuine things Azula has ever done was warn Zuko about visiting Uncle Iroh. Her “just be careful dum dum” felt like it was coming from a place of ‘you’re finally home and back in good graces with dad, so just don’t screw it up.’ (Of course she already played a much more damning blackmail card with the slaying Aang in Ba Sing Se lie, but still that moment is one of the few without an ulterior motive.)
