I had to become 40 years old to really appreciate this kind of music to which some "intellectual" schoolfriends already listened in their late teenyears. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Weather Report, Al di Meola, Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke etc etc. Today I love them all.
My personal favourite of Mahavishnu is The Inner Mounting Flame - Meeting of the Spirits, Noonward Race ... epic stuff 🤘

Great reaction video!! I saw this band 7 times between May 1972 and July 1973. Audiences were always astounded.

I saw The Mahavishnu on the BBC and at 17 years old was completely blown away. Moreover my dad liked it because "the guitarist" had short hair. Since 1972 much has happened. I could not stop listening to the band. Cutting a long story short on the 30 May 2022 (later this month) I am seeing JM and the 4th Dimension in Manchester. More or less 50 years since seeing the Mahavishnu in it's first form. Am I lucky or wot?? No? Oh BTW did I mention that I have back stage passes to meet the band? Now, let me ask again......

Miles Beyond is actually "just" a tribute to Miles Davis, and actually written by McLaughlin as far as i know

Now, there's a fine chunk of music to explore. One real game-changer for me. The composition of it was so interesting. Love how McLaughlin's on the right, Goodman on the left, Hammer in the middle, sliding in and out perfectly. Brilliant how sympathetic each instrument was to the others. Love this record.

That was next to Yes, ELP, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull etc. also on my record shelf. Somehow completely different, but it still hits the same nerve. (meant positively)

Set the bar extremely high for us all back then. Tremendously inspirational!
