  I have caught more fish on a Chatterbait than any other bait. From Florida to Tennessee, from Tennessee to Texas and Texas to California. The Chatterbait absolutely CRUSHES!

  Sounds weird....but most predators are wired the same way. Take a look your pet cat or kitten to get a clue how Bass behave. Its a change in movement dynamics that triggers an attack or bite. Something moving at a steady pace almost hypnotises them. They just follow out of instinct, since any moving object could be &apos;food&apos;. When you pause or pop a bait it bypasses the &apos;thinking&apos; or &apos;inspection&apos; mind set and triggers the hardwired &apos;strike&apos; or &apos;bite&apos; instinct. Its almost automatic. The chance of something getting away is enough to trigger it.<br>Everything with a chatterbait is about vibration, flash and flicker. Its a vague impression of a bait fish tail beat, fin flicker and flank flash. Its just enough to trigger the predators instinct to follow. Blade size determines the vibration frequency. Its an &apos;in your face&apos; bait designed to grab attention. This is especially true in the pre-spawn when you get hunger combined with territorial aggression. Then the chatterbait is &apos;food&apos; and a possible &apos;rival&apos;.<br>Varying your retrieve is probably the most important part of lure fishing. In the end your hauling a piece of metal and plastic through the water. Your aim is to by-pass the fishes &apos;wisdom&apos; and trigger its automatic, instinctive responses to strike. Most of my bites tend to occur when the bait first falls though the water or on a pause when I&apos;m retrieving.

  This is the first year I got comfortable with a chatterbait. I would go out with just 1 rod with different color chatterbaits. &nbsp;Just cover water and it will happen. Also, make sure you buy a hook file! &nbsp;Don’t throw away your dull hooks. Takes less than 30 seconds to get them sharp again. Hook file is only $10. You will save a lot of money.

  I learned some of that almost by accident. Cast out my bait and reeled it quickly to keep it from getting in the grass. Once I paused it and started back to reel, bang! Been changing cadence since then and catching fish.

  I have rarely fished a chatterbait but this year I am going “all in”. Frogs and Chatterbaits will be my focus 🤞🤞🤞

  I&apos;m so glad you mentioned that about using Dingers (or shortened versions) as chatterbait trailers. &nbsp;I still &nbsp;use a 4&quot; Dinger, with about 3/4&quot; removed, as my trailer, 95% of the time. &nbsp;It just flat works. &nbsp;And the 3&quot; Dingers on the mini-Max (trimmed skirt) are killer.

  No problems catching fish on a chatterbait. It&apos;s my go to lure. I love top water, but I always have a chatterbait follow up tied on, and ready. And, green pumpkin is definitely the best color.

  I think I could live if I only had green pumpkin and bluegill colored lures and green pumpkin junebug soft plastics (worms etc)

  Blows my mind as well! When power fishing it’s my go to lure. The only lure I’ve caught more bass on is a senko, that’s it. Also, I’ve learned to only use 3 colors, some type of shad, I like spot remover, green pumpkin and bluegill. I’ve never caught a fish on a black and blue bladed jig, that’s just me though. Z-Craw Jr. is my favorite trailer especially when I want to keep the lure up, like in shallow water, followed by a Hog Farmer spunk shad. I recommend a medium heavy moderate fast rod.
