Pearl Jam used open G in their song Daughter, but instead of tuning the E string down to D note, they tuned it up to a G note.

You can even do a really simple song to get used to where the major chords are by learning Won’t Back Down by Tom Petty. Simple barring of all frets at 9, 7, 5 and open.

Yeah I deep dived on open tunings. Fahey, Kottke Cockburn ect. Fahey really found and used chord shapes that allowed really beautiful ,almost classical , orchestrations. Impressions of Susan comes to mind.. the wildest is Page,s Rain song. Open C tuning with D on the low and high strings.
