  Reading, skateboarding, painting miniatures, building model kits, coin collecting.. that’s just a few. But I’ve had my entire life to collect and cultivate skills and learn what makes me happy.

  I think the best way to put it is: We just forgot how to be bored.<br>Hobbies are born out of boredom. They are something you do in your free leisure time. <br>And that time is now filled with all kinds of overstimulation. Infinite TV shows to watch, infinite YT videos, infinite live streams, all kinds of social media.<br>As bizarre as it is, people just don&apos;t have the time to get really bored anymore. And without that boredom, there is no strive to follow any passions to fill that gap anymore.

  I kinda wanna argue that hobbies were being broken before TikTok, my generation grew up with our parents being annoyed that we had interests that wouldn’t make us money. You usually get to enjoy things as kids, but once you become an adult it’s looked down on to continue to enjoy things like drawing, skateboarding, toys, or even wearing cute and colorful things. My whole life my two main hobbies have been customizing dolls and drawing, my dad was an artist so he nurtured that part of me, but when it came down to me expressing my love of dolls, even as a kid my mom wouldn’t allow me to do so outside of the house. As an adult free from her control I was able to fully reclaim that love for dolls, but up until the point that I told my mom I used those dolls to make money she rejected it. Once she knew my hobby was something I could benefit from in an “adult way” she actually started to support it. I know so many people who had to face backlash by their families for enjoying something “childish” once they became legal. And we as a society see all the time how people are made fun of for making art a certain way, dressing a certain way, collecting certain things, everything is delighted to for children, but society is also so fucked up that not even children are allowed to enjoy doing childish things. If anything it was the adultification of everything that killed hobbies.

  My whole life I’ve been mocked and ridiculed for my hobbies, including by friends saying oh they’re very nerdy interests and you’ll never find a girlfriend if you keep doing these, but I’ve kinda just learned to accept it and keep doing what helps me through tough times like miniature painting Gundam kits and drawing

  There is one extremely simple solution to that predicament: Start doing something for fun and it&apos;s own sake and stop using TikTok. It&apos;s literally that easy.

  In Germany/ Switzerland calling someone „Hobbylos“ (without a hobby) is literally a way to tell someone they are acting stupid.

  My hobby is fixing cars and driving cars but it definitely seems like I&apos;m being punished for liking those things.i keep hearing &quot;If you&apos;re not making money off of your hobby then why are you doing it&quot;.
