My grandmother had Alzheimers. It was devastating.

Dr. Rhonda Patrick had a video a while back, saying something about tryptophan and KYN having a common pathway…. I don’t remember all of the details, but I think it was something about how exercise led to more tryptophan/serotonin, and lack of exercise led to more KYN, a neurotoxin.

Thanks, Nick, for bringing new scientific discovery to us and reduce complex theories to more digestable level for us. This is public service at its best.

Inspired by Nick Norwitz, I bought a 40 Hz lamp. I use this lamp with a 40 Hz soundtrack. I've had some surprising experiences, and I'd like to share them with you. I'm wondering if others have had the same or similar experiences: When I look directly into the light while listening to headphones with a 40 Hz soundtrack, I fall into a deep meditative state within a few minutes. My eyelids close, and I can still perceive the flickering light through them. I would describe this state as deeply relaxing, a state somewhere between waking and sleeping. I've never fallen asleep before, but I fall into a state similar to the transition phase to sleep, and it feels very good. My breathing is slow, and it feels very good. I don't really want to leave this relaxed state. I've become completely addicted to it. But none of this happened out of any expectations. I bought this light after watching Nick Norwitz's video and simply wanted to try out an additional tool for dementia prevention. (Dementia is common in my family.) That's why I'm all the more amazed by this experience, which I didn't expect at all.

The book "The Angel and the Assassin" by Donna Jackson Nakazawa explores the duality of microglia, tiny brain cells that can be both beneficial and detrimental to brain health. Microglia act as immune cells in the brain, and while they can protect against infection and injury, they can also contribute to conditions like Alzheimer's, depression, and anxiety when misregulated. The book highlights the potential for microglia to be "rebooted" and harnessed for healing, offering a new perspective on human health and disease.
Elaboration:
The book uses the metaphor of "angel and assassin" to describe the dual nature of microglia.
Angels:
Microglia can act as healers, cleaning up debris, repairing damaged neural connections, and supporting brain function.
Assassins:
When activated by stress, trauma, or other factors, microglia can contribute to inflammation, synaptic pruning, and the development of neurodegenerative and psychiatric conditions..
