Problem here is not 'what would you do' it is what kind of person are you.<br>I know people who live in FE Asia on a similar budget but these people have iron resolve' do not build houses for girlfriends some don't even have girlfriends.<br>I lived on slightly more than that in my first year of retirement, no girlfriend, $100 a month apartment small clean with AC, no nights in a bar. no drink. Anyone who can do this can indeed live on about $1,000 pm I would not advise it though the vast majority of Western men cannot live like this.

It's not expensive to live here. It's how you live. If you want to go out all the time it will cost. If you live a normal life it's a great place to live. If you want girls and a high life then it's not the place to live. You need to treat it as a home not a holiday.

That's crazy. You need a steady income of at least $1500 a month. That $100K should be in a bank drawing interest. Preferably in an HSA or the stock market. I would do half and half 🤔

He doesn't realise how fortunate he was that her ex was an American far away and not some jealous or scheming local. If he had fully researched I don't think he would've gone to that rural province to begin with, never mind build a house there, with those crazy adultery laws and the problems they can bring.

I think he reacted the way he did to the woman had to do with him not having experienced relationships in his past. Usually by age 62 a person's either been married or around the block a few times.
