  George was booked at a Countryland, a long gone outdoor venue about 1.5 miles from my house in SW Arkansas. Late 1970s. They kept announcing he was coming, finally they roll in with him. After about 45 minutes (about 2 hrs late by now) they try to get him to in standup shape. He can’t get thru a song. They try to go it sitting down. Same thing. Finally they announce it’s a no go and people line up for ticket refunds.

  I recommend reading Jones book  "I lived to tell it all"   if you haven't.  So many wild stories in there

  There was a time when I drank. When you get soaked on a Friday & you have to take the weekend to get in shape to work the next week, it's too damn much. I went into the bar I normally frequented & the bartender, a woman, asked me did I remember what I the past night, I had no answer, she was laughing so hard. I told her she would never see me in there again, she smiled & I kept my word! It was a very humbling experience.

  Dangdist &quot;shift&quot; I&apos;ve ever heard. Wayne has the receipts (names, places, dates). When he&apos;s telling it you get the picture in your mind. George Jones is a legend.   George&apos;s guitarist sat in with our band in Louisiana in the early 90s on a 45 minute set of George Jones covers and came to the club in the big white car with the horns on the hood that had NO SHOW on the front plate. George was down the road visiting family for the holidays so we didn&apos;t get to meet him.

  They call me no show Jones, &nbsp;Back during the nineties Jones was headlining the Lincoln County fair in Troy Mo. We got tickets and went out to see the show. Now this is the biggest star Imma ever gonna see. The band comes out and plays a few songs. Finally Jones comes out and sings a couple songs. Then he says the equipment wasn&apos;t working properly and took off. No show Jones was true to his name. We&apos;ll almost. Still listen to him today.

  I tried to read George&apos;s book, &quot;I Lived To Tell It All&quot; but it was so traumatic to me that I couldn&apos;t finish it....not yet anyway. I&apos;ve had some real bad experiences with dangerous drunk folks including myself. My dad was the first and one of the worst but being a musician I&apos;ve encountered a whole bunch of them. One drink and all hell breaks loose.
