It kinda broke my heart how you guys spent the whole movie telling him "Dude, don't walk away from your daughter!" and then, at the very end, his final act of love requires him to do EXACTLY that. 😭

The homeless man really gets me. He’s so scared the whole time, more scared even than the little girl seemingly. He’s constantly written off or ignored by everyone else. But when the moment came for him to do what needed to be done he didn’t even hesitate. A true hero in the movie, selfless and brave:. His death always gets me the most for some reason

The little girl singing in the end was her doing what her dad told her that morning... always finish what you start. So she sang the song for him and it saved their life. :/

Korean films are so mentally exhausting. I feel like I need a 2 week break after watching one. They are so well made

15:57 A thing to remember is that all South Korean men (barring severe health issues) have to serve at least 18 months in the military before the age of 28. The time to serve used to be longer I believe. Even with severe health issues, you still have to serve in the Civil Service for about 2 years. So Seok-Woo (the girl's father) probably called an old friend, likely someone he'd served with, who'd decided to make the military his career and reached a higher rank. It can also somewhat explains the tactical thinking Seok-Woo and Sang-Hwa (big buff man) use when fighting the zombies.

The shot of his shadow falling off the train is one of the saddest, most beautiful things I've ever seen in any film.

36:45 That bathroom phone call scene is important. They imply the zombie virus came from a chemical leak connected to his company. Him cleaning himself right after feels symbolic, like guilt and responsibility. The movie lowkey shows how corporate decisions led to the disaster

So one of the things that's never stated but is consistently followed as a plot device is that the closer to your head/brain you are bit, the faster you turn. No one ever says this, but it's followed as a plot device depending on how quickly it's needed for the plot. A bite on the leg takes the longest time. - The other thing that's *never stated but followed is that a person who is about to turn, dies in their last emotion. For the Grandma, she's hating the wife/mother, for the strong husband, it's bravery/heroics/saving others, for the COO, it's fear, and for the father, it's loving his daughter.

I'm not sure I could trust someone who didn't cry at the end of this movie.

This movie might just seem like a touching zombie movie, but it's also heavy social criticism. This movie is an analogy for multiple public tragedies that have happened in South Korea due to the incompetence or selfishness of the involved authorities. Especially the Sewol Ferry incident, where over 300 high school students lost their lives because they were instructed to stay onboard as the boat sank while the crew fled. That tragedy happened just 2 years before this movie came out, so the choice to include the high school baseball team characters in this likely was a deliberate choice. It was found that that tragedy was a result of corrupt companies with direct ties to the government, which was what the crazy selfish suit guy could be representing, and also potentially why they made the main dad involved in working with the company that caused the breakout. They also included several types of people who still face many difficulties in Korea, namely children, pregnant women, the elderly and the homeless.

As you've now ventured into Korean cinema, I'd highly recommend Parasite if you haven't seen it yet. It's a lot less sad than this one, don't worry lol

I also like the fact that the length of the movie is the same time to get from Seoul to Busan.

Train to Busan is one of my favorite movies and ALWAYS makes me cry! Ma Dong-Seok (strong arms) is somewhat of an action star in Korea but he also played Gilgamesh in the Eternals! Not sure of you've seen it or not. Gong Yoo (dad) is a huge actor in Korea. He played his first villain role in Squid Games, and is hands down one of the best actors period. You should also check out Parasite!
