  I've lived on my sailboat for nearly 40 years. I wouldn't live any place else and I'm a 74 year old woman. There are no downsides for me. I dont have refrigeration, dont need it, dont care about having dressy clithes, dont need or want them, if it's hot ot damp, hose off or jump in the water. Take life as it comes no matter where you are happy living. Maintenance comes in EVERY living situation. 😂😂❤

  This all true. I sail a Hanse 505(51ft) sloop and just got to Hawaii after a glorious 16 day journey, thank God no real problems except here in Hawaii its been raining and will continue to rain for a least a week more, but I am in Hawaii!!! As a sailor for almost 70 years on the West coast I have journeyed from San Diego to Hawaii, down to Costa Rica and and up to Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Have enjoyed every journey sure there are plenty of problems but that’s part of the cost. I must say I am thinking about getting into a trawler so as to continue on the water only because I am getting older and my knees are not as forgiving as they once were. But will continue to enjoy the ocean for as long as I can. I feel the most comfortable and the most in tune with myself and God while I’m on the water. Land is great but lacks something not sure what but that’s the way it is. Thanks for letting me spout off. Fair winds and calm seas!♥️♥️⛵️👍

  I spend every winter on my trawler in Florida. The extra effort keeps this old man healthy and moving. At 75 I will do it till I can’t anymore.

  I lived with my wife and our small child on a boat for 6 years. The easiest way to explain boat life to non-sailors was that it was like camping every day. Great video!

  I summered as a kid on a 35’ ketch in the 80’s at a bare-bones yacht club. The sight of a coiled hose on blacktop on a sunny day meant a warm rinse after a day of sailing lessons.<br><br>Food shelf life and refrigeration is an other issue to consider for the land lubber. Back then it was ice bags and blocks. Cold cuts floating in ice water for lunch were pretty common come Sunday.<br><br>Sandy-salty underwear, mosquitos, sanding and varnishing, hot sticky nights, splinters, sunburns, wet butt and feet…I don’t really miss any of it. But also knew nothing else at that age and loved it. We were raised wildly free as children, able to cross the bay alone in an 8’ sailing dinghy solo at 9 years old, and later as teenagers afforded access to the 35’ ketch for the weekend loaded with our friends and far too much beer. The lifestyle taught us responsibility, independence, and gave us self-confidence well beyond our peers.

  I lived full time on a 44’ sailboat, a 40’ trawler and a 23’ Mercedes Sprinter Van. I sold both boats but I still live in my Van which I absolutely love and enjoy and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. What I disliked the most about living on the water was the excruciating slowness going from A to B and that everything was more complicated, and took more effort and often was more stressful. Also being dependent on marinas for haul-outs and the constant repairs, maintenance and fixing stuff can cause a toll on you as well - mentally, physically and financially! Nevertheless I don’t regret my time I spent living on boats as this was to only way to really find out which nomadic lifestyle works the best for me.

  You inspired Melissa and I to move onto a sail boat a year ago. It has been the best time of our lives. It is hard, but it is awesome. This might be my favorite video of all of them.
