He died quietly in his own bed, few mob guys do. Most get killed or die in prison. He made the cash without the flash and keep his head down low. Bad boys move in silence.

I remember those days. I court reported municipal court judge Trafficante ... wasn't allow to look in his direction. All the Cubans in Ybor City played the Bolita.

They romanticize him. He was informant for the government. It’s how he walked with impunity

Mr. Trafficante was in decline and the Hillsborough county commissioners started to fill the space left behind. Here in Tampa the joke was the families kept it all on the down lo, the greedy commissioners totally lacking in tact or street smarts or muscle would use their position to extort developers with brazen demands to be paid off for permitting and zoning variances. Fbi got wind through complaints and arrested a bunch of them. Now things have been once more conducted on the down lo, as the song says lot of people talking but few of them know.

I worked for Trafficante in the 1970s and '80s. He also bought his track racing and betting forms from me. Horse racing, dogs and Jai-Alai. I was a fine wine and liquor wholesaler in those days, too. I sold to bars, night clubs, restaurants and package stores, several owned by him. So was the wholesale liquor business. His house was in my own neighborhood and looked like any other house. I never thought about it because I grew up around the Cuban culture in Tampa and I was smart enough not to ask questions about mob lives apart from my own experiences with them. It was just life. I didn't know details and wasn't curious.
