As a practicing MD for over 30 years, I have little confidence in the PSA test. I have had MULTIPLE patients with a PSA < 1.o and had cancer; I have had others that were over 8 and no cancer. It is an imperfect test, at best. I have picked up more cancers based on the trend for a patient than I have with a single read. We need something better.

I had 3 painful biopsies in 4 years, plus 2 MRI’s, blood tests, prostate massage followed by urine test, and probably some I don’t remember. The last biopsy was MRI guided and he took 30 cores. My doctor was convinced I had cancer due to my PSA being 8 to 12. Every single test came back normal and negative for cancer. What I actually had, and have, is an abnormally large prostate. That was almost 10 years ago now. They put me on finasteride and my prostate is smaller but still larger than most, and my PSA is around 4. Be careful about rushing into biopsies. I wish I hadn’t listened to that doctor. He was supposedly the best urologist in our area.

From age 50 until now, my PSA has ranged between 4-13. I have done 2 biopsies and 1 MRI and all 3 came back negative. I will still go to my urologist every year to get checked until I’m gone from this world…

I was saved by the psa test ,just over 5 then had a biopsy which found cancer in my prostate, had my prostate removed with the cancer confined to the prostate now cancer free

I’m dealing with an enlarged prostate and my PSA levels are up and down hearing this news is somewhat comforting. I am very appreciative of the content and the manner in which its presented.

My PSA was 5.6 for decades. 30 years ago a doctor recommended an ultra sound. After that he said the results were inconclusive and scheduled a biopsy. After the biopsy my PSA elevated to 19.8 where it has remained for 30 years. I have never had cancer but after the biopsy I now suffer from BPH do not trust PSA tests.

I am now 65 and had an initial PSA result of 25. I had CT scan, rectal biopsy. MRI scan then more targeted biopsy and no cancer diagnosis. Over the past 10 years my PSA has been stable and gradually reducing to the current PSA result of 16. I have a PSA test every 6 months now so hopefully a high PSA does not necessarily means a cancer diagnosis.

I had a blood test that revealed a PSA of 6.9. I saw a urologist who did a rectal exam and that exam revealed a smooth prostate gland. The urologist ordered an MRI which revealed no cancer.

Thank you for this information. It seems like the urology community is all over the map in regards to PSA and other prostate discussions. I can't imagine undergoing radical surgery with so many question marks hanging out there.

Men! Thank you so much for this information. I have BPH baaed on a MRI from HALO Diagnostics. Nobody ever explained what the 19.8 Free meant or 0.06 PSA Density.. I am on the mission to inform men that they don't have to accept BPH as we age and there are ways to help and live a better life.<br>. Love your knowledge and THANK YOU!

In a for profit private healthcare system there’s no incentive to actually heal your pool of “clients”. UR right that patients should take responsibility
