I love watching all these videos of the younger generation of NBA fans watching Larry for the first time. They’re always BLOWN AWAY!!!! They know he was a great shooter but that’s it. Larry was sooooooo much more than that. He was the greatest all-around player in NBA history

The only thing I saw missing was that after he retired from playing, he became a coach and won Coach of the Year, then Executive of the year in the front office!

You are starting to see why us oldheads think so highly of players in the past. Those guys played through injury none of this load management BS.

I'm glad you can appreciate this. You actually LISTEN to the commentary, which is essential. So many others are too busy talking through the commentary that's essential to hear. Props.

Bird era was lit. This video does him no justice. I was blessed to see 90% of those games in the old Garden

In a game against the Utah Jazz, Bird was one steal away from having a QUADRULPLE DOUBLE AT THE END OF THE THIRD QUARTER after which he pulled himself out of the game. When KC realized he only needed one steal to record the quad, he asked Larry if he wanted to go back in and finish it, and Bird just said, "No, I've done enough damage for one game." He really didn't care about personal achievements. For him it really was all about the team winning.

Bird actually injured his back in 85. He played for 7 more years. In the game with the Pacers when he fractured his cheek bone and had a concussion his back was so bad his teammates said he struggled to get dressed for the game and he had spent the night in the hospital in traction which happened frequently towards the end of his career.

The night before a game against the Chicago Bulls, Larry was out at a bar. Some of the Bulls cheerleaders also happened to be at the same bar and, of course, recognized Larry. The ladies started buying Larry and co. drinks thinking that they could impact his performance in the game the next day.
Game time came, and the Celtics dominated the Bulls for the win. Before leaving the court, Larry walked by the Bulls cheerleaders and said, "Thanks for the beers, ladies."
Legend.

8:10 I saw a game in Boston in 1986, for my 12th birthday. They crushed Golden State.
