As a person who was born into the fandom of a club the concept of choosing a club is still foreign to me.

I remember watching this and thinking this really needs an unbiased football fan to explain the concepts where you fell short, to the point where I was going to contact you 😂

FFP "Financial Fair Play" rules basically force a club to spend in line with their revenues. To prevent them to hurt themselves by spending more that they can in hope to achieve success or financial profit that can never be guaranteed. Therefore, bigger clubs from big cities, with big stadius and continous success can spend much more compared to the opposite - but the rules relativelly affect all teams. They are loose rules meaning for example the last 3 yrs (or so) are observed. If the team overspends during that period then UEFA imposes some bans for them, limiting their capability to hit the transfer window until they sell some of their players and bring order to their own finances. Then the ban is lifted and so on. If a team cannot bring its finances in order during a period agreed with UEFA when such ban is imposed to them - then they can be kicked out Euopean competition that year even if they qualified. It happened famously with AC Milan in 2019.

You're right that most, if not all, teams in Level 5 are professional. But they don't have to be technically, like you do in the Top 4 leagues. Clubs do go pro, because otherwise they are likely not going to be able to compete.

Regarding the definitions, a Professional club is one where all of their players are full-time footballers. They don't have another job.
Whereas, Semi-Pro clubs pay their players, but not enough normally to earn a living on, so they will usually have a day-job. Semi pro teams go down as far as the 12 or 13th level in England.
Then fully amateur clubs are ones where no one is getting paid and they're all just in it for the love of the game.

The sliding tackle thing goes a little bit further.
There is also whats called "dangerous play" even if you hit the ball.
Studs first are always considered a risk, you have to make sure the ball is away from the player to do that.
Scissoring with both legs around the player is also dangerous play becouse of injury risk, if you hit the legs its a big chance they break.
Its not uncommon for players to get red even if they miss the ball and player completly becouse IF that tackle would have hit, like diving in with leg studs first but missing, it would have dealt serious damage.

22:36 totally agree with you. If the clubs need to stay in the league for the advertisement and financial side of it, they would sign players based on ability to help them reach the goal. There's a huge difference in revenue between the leagues.

You can bankrupt. But not necessarily, when you are relegated you will sell players, you will buy cheaper ones to lower your wages. Remember that this works because the clubs own the player's sport rights, there's no drafts

What I personally like about football is the tension it brings. No matter the strength of the two teams, you cannot let to get scored against. One goal more means victory. A lesser team can score hypothetically from one single chance and the better team have 10 shots within the target and still not score and therefore lose. In majority of cases the better team can overturn - but a nice percentage of the games they won't. Going up by 2 goals often could mean the game is over. So both teams must approach the game 100% focused defensivelly - and see what happens with their offensive output that day.

It's not basketball where you have 50+ chances to right the wrong that day. If you are a clearly better team you can afford losing by 20 at half-time and then still likely win at the end. The "tension" compared to football is non-existant. Just my 5 cents.
