  We spent 2 weeks every year in Corollla/Ocean Sands every year from 1984 until probably 1996. Originally, there was a guard house at the Dare/Currituck county line, and you couldn&apos;t go any further without a permit. &nbsp;Closest grocery store was in Southern Shores. &nbsp;There was a Winks of Corolla, a convenience store, gas station, along with a post office and real estate office. The Corolla Fire Department had a single truck, an Army surplus Jeep truck with a slide in tank and pump. As I remember, the postmaster lived over the post office. There were no hotels or motels, just residents and rental homes. The house we rented had AC, but some of the rental houses didn&apos;t even have air conditioning. Fresh produce sold by a truck farmer from mainland Currituck County selling out of his pickup truck came through several times a week.<br>You could go out to the beach at any time of day, and it was not crowded at all, front row to the ocean. &nbsp;<br>I would love to go back, but then again I think it would make me sad to do so, with it being so commercialized. &nbsp;It was a time and place that one could decompress and just relax.<br>I get the growth, I live in Asheville, and tourism drives what is destroying the vibe. &nbsp;Maybe I&apos;ll look at going to Carvoa Beach.

  Really enjoyed this! I love this town and visited since the early &apos;90s. Very interesting history and I learned new things.

  Beautiful representation of the true reason why folks visit Corolla and Carova year after year! &nbsp;Our family and friends have been visiting Carova for 15 straight years for that very reason.

  Is this show going to continue? I’m OBSESSED and we NEED more of this content as a small town girl myself. I binged this like a fav Netflix show.

  Wonderful work Josh! &nbsp;Have been to the Outer Banks dozens of times, but never to Corolla. &nbsp;Looks like I&apos;ll be looking for a home to rent there in the coming years! &nbsp;Thanks for the work you do!
