  Hey everyone, today on TFC Stadiums we’re looking at how Nassau Coliseum went from hosting an NHL dynasty to losing the Islanders and becoming the centre of several failed redevelopment plans. Should the Coliseum be preserved, redeveloped or eventually demolished?

  I grew up about 10 minutes away from the Coliseum, and I&apos;m a diehard Islanders fan.<br><br>Watching a hockey game at Nassau Coliseum was an experience that is truly difficult to put into words. Even if you were in the nosebleeds, you felt close to the action. And when the Islanders were doing well, the place would get LOUD in a way I&apos;ve never experienced at any other rink. Watching the Town of Hempstead and the county voters choose to let the Isles walk in 2011 broke my heart as a kid, and even more so when the team chose to move to Brooklyn. I am thrilled that the Islanders are back on the Island with a new arena, but I think most Islander fans will always wonder what could&apos;ve been had the Lighthouse Project successfully moved on.

  Excellent video, thank you. I&apos;m a 57-year-old diehard Islanders fan. I loved the Coliseum, but it needed to be replaced/upgraded. Nassau County was so short-sighted in dismissing this. That beautiful UBS arena should be on that location, and a win for everyone. New jobs, a modern arena, and keeping the area&apos;s identity. &nbsp;A true shame.

  Fully privately funded project got shot down.. then the people didnt want to fund anything and now its a grave yard. Nice work.

  Went to high school across the street. It was truly a cool experience to finish my day at school, walk over 5 minutes away and go see an NHL game.

  As an Islanders fan it was awesome stumbling on this video. Great work. <br><br>I grew up going to the coliseum and got to attend a game in its final unexpected season. After the dark years in Brooklyn, the energy was incredible. <br><br>Only thing missed was highlighting how close Long Island was to losing the team throughout this saga. <br><br>The craziest part of everything to me is despite UBS being an incredible arena, people still talk about how much they miss the coliseum and its location. You mention those parking lots a lot, and there’s seemingly nothing the average islander fans missed more than them and their location.

  It was an iconic arena but it should have been closed when the Islanders left. New York Jets should move to Long Island and build a new Stadium there

  Thank you for this. I grew up about 8 miles away from the coliseum. Saw my first pro basketball games there -- the Nets -- and my first NHL hockey games, the Islanders. They also had for a time, the four-consecutive-time Major Indoor Soccer League champion New York Arrows, Long Island&apos;s forgotten other dynasty. The mysteriously missed opportunity for salvaging the Coliseum site came while the Islanders were in Brooklyn, when the Ratner organization won the coliseum renovation rights.<br><br>What they should have done is leveled the old arena to the seating bowl and built a new, modern arena above it. They&apos;d have controlled Barclays Center in Brooklyn and whatever the new Uniondale arena would have been called and more importantly negated the need for the UBS Arena in Belmont. If only...

  Used to go there for Ranger/Islander games, many concerts, and car shows in the basement. It&apos;s a shame what&apos;s happened. Not many concerts there anymore, as UBS is the preferred venue to play on Long Island

  My first game was during the drive for 5 Stanley Cups. I was probably 6 years old. That place had a serious aura back then. I watched it go from that to $5 tickets in the 90’s and 2000’s. We used to go n a Friday night and get in for nothing. Me and my little bro were like 13-14 antagonizing Philly Flyers fans….😂
