A minor notation. I visited the northeast Texas/west Arkansas area during Spring Break off 1978, including Texarkana. As an avid beer can collector, I pay attention to beer-distribution patterns. In early 1978, the I-30 corridor of northeast Texas was largely "dry". This area included the Texas "half" of Texarkana. <br><br>Meanwhile, the Arkansas "half" of Texarkana was "wet", including "hard liquor". In several Arkansas stores, I asked for Coors, but it was not yet sold there. Coors was introduced there in 1980. In 1977, one probably would have had to travel a few dozen miles southwest into Texas on I-30 to find it.

Eastbound and down was not played as the opening sequence. It was a completely different song. “ you heard the legend of Jesse James and John Henry just to mention some names but there’s a truck driving legend in the south today. A man called bandit from Atlanta GA.” on the way to get the beer, they play “westbound and down”. Only after they’ve picked up the beer, do they ever play “eastbound and down.”
