  The story behind Ghost Stories getting dubbed is fascinating. According to voice actor Greg Ayres, they were told to &quot;do whatever it took to sell the show.&quot; The only condition was that the basic story and names of major characters and ghosts had to remain intact, but everything else was fair game. To that end, director Steven Foster reworked the show into a pure Gag Dub by throwing out nearly all of the original script. When the voice actors were called in to record scenes, whoever got there first would set the tone and subject for the scene, which meant the other cast members had to follow in those footsteps. This approach produced a dub full of random characterization, fourth-wall-breaking jokes, political and cultural references, and shit they would never be able to get away with today. <br>(Side note: You can totally watch this dub on Crunchyroll)

  Btw that explanation is a rumour, the actual reason was the company that owned the Western rights approached them about doing a dub and they were given basically 0 constraints, they were essentially told &quot;as long as you keep all the names and the main plot the same you can do whatever you want&quot;

  fun fact the actress voicing the female nogla character actually went on to be pretty successful in anime dubs, she voices bulma in dragon ball and froppy in my hero academia. also if u want a modern version of ghost stories &nbsp;thats less offensive but still has some funny dub moments where they break 4th wall and make irl references as well as a lot of sexual jokes theres an anime called 100 girlfriends and the dub actors do similar to ghost stories but on a scale that can still be aired on tv

  The voice actress for Momoko(the Christian girl) stated in an interview when they recorded the lines “someone would say something offensive and we would try to one up each other with each of the next lines delivered between voice actors and actresses” <br>Honestly sounds like a fun job

  So, according to the voice actors for the dub, they did have a script but they were given free rein to adlib.<br><br>So it was a race to the recording booth to see who could set up the gags and adlibs for the others to work off of.<br><br>Absolute legend of a show.
