It's fascinating seeing the cultural differences with you being an American, because a lot of people people in the UK would consider an hour's drive pretty unreasonable or decently far away. I live about 2 hours from the Giant's Causeway, one of the most impressive natural formations of rocks in the world, and I still also never go because 2 hours seems like a pretty unreasonable drive for me LOL. On the other hand, my American friends once drove 5 hours just to try a restaurant she wasn't even sure about!
