  Thanks for covering my little local engine. I live close enough to hear this guy every time it goes out: whistle echoing aroudn the valley. On cloudy and foggy days it is hauntingly beautiful. Sometimes she runs up the track to Mill City and I can tell because the whistle comes over the hill a little differently and the sound is just as good!

  I always wonder what that whistle sounded like to a kid in the 1920s or 30s growing up in some small town in the back end of nowhere with dreams? A still dark night on the Great Plains and the sound of a steam whistle calling you to New York, Hollywood, St Louis. The sound of dreams calling across the plains. The sound of freedom.

  I got to see her last year. Loved it. Any time a steamer can pop out in the Portland area. I am so on it. Even the rail museum in Portland has theirs out, I have to see it. If not for, but my grandson who loves trains too.
