That was the lesson Tolkien learned in The Great War, that the lowest soldiers in the trenches were the true heroes, who all should bow before.

It's also so well done how the individual hobbits respond to the entire assembly bowing to them; Merry and Pippin are like "wow, this is cool", Sam is a little embarassed and feels awkward, and Frodo is the one who really understands the immensity of that gesture.

In case anyone forgot what real masculinity looked like, the character of Aragorn (immortalized by Viggo Mortensen) is the absolute best portrayal ever done on screen. The mix of courage with sensitivity, fearlessness with humility will forever set the standard in cinema.

I have never noticed the silent, "go to him" Elrond whispers to Arwenn. As proud as he is that must be heartbreaking bc he is literally telling his immortal daughter to go and become mortal in a sense.

"My friend's, you bow to no one," is the heart of this whole thing for me. That amongst all these great and purposeful beings and daughnting enemies, the smallest among them carried the heaviest weight and followed through the deed that saved everyone. Absolutely beautiful storytelling.

That scene, when they're just sitting at the table with their beers, the pained, memory-laden looks on their faces as they look about the room, then at each other in silence of voice but with expressions that speak entire libraries. That scene absolutely nailed the combat veteran state of being. There's no way words can convey all that they've experienced, all that they're feeling, so words aren't used.
