Severn (edit; yes I know, it's supposed to be seven) beers deep watching this... And it hit's home. As a almost 35 year old (that has been "enjoying drinks for two decades) it's just became a habit.

I guess I'll need a challenge: as many likes as this comment gets = sober days. And no, I'm not just fishing for likes - I really need support. I'll report back to you. (It's also a good reminder for myself to watch this video all over again)

EDIT;
This blew up way more than I ever anticipated. Thanks for all the support and kind words and sober stories. All the best to everyone battling on alcohol addiction.

Here's some updates;
August 25 - 12 days sober and going strong. Two weekends behind without any major temptations to grab a drink. Non-alcoholic beer has been a small help. The mood is a bit more optimistic in general. There are also some annoying downsides - sleep is not that great and some sudden bursts of anxiety and nervousness have been present.

September 8'th;
26 days sober and had major changes in my life. I became a father a few days ago.
Only non alcoholic beverages every now and then. The temptation has eased up a bit. Of course I would love to celebrate with just few beers. Not going to, since it would not be few.
Sleep has been very little lately, but deeper. Nervousness and anxiety is still there, but a bit less.

September 20,
Day 38 - The temptation to drink has almost disappeared. And if a sudden urge comes, it goes almost as fast when thoughts about being hungover takes over. Anxiety is also a little less present. My thoughts has been running way more but not in a good way - it's a bit crowded from time to time and certain things just doesn't get finished or even started..
Sleep is way deeper now, but I've still been a bit tired through out the days.
Quality of life has improved overall, but nothing major.

Reset on October 4th -
Almost at the 2 month marker I wasn't strong enough, and drank some beer and got pretty wasted.. Shame, anxiety, depression.. Those are the words to describe the feelings present afterwards.

October 22,
It's been a bit rough journey within last few weeks and with this previous disappointment. Sleep is all over the place and the baby isn't really helping. I've been very passive with life in general. It's pretty hard to get anything done, but at least there's some light at the end of the tunnel; I've been in contact with healthcare professionals and they're raising pretty strong flags towards ADD diagnosis. That would explain pretty much in general - and would make absolute sense to explain this annoying urge to drink. The urge to "be someone else than me, myself even for a while". Even this update not being that positive: I'll do my best to not to fall into old habits.

I'll update in a few weeks time again :)

I've always found it weird how alcohol is the only drug people judge you for NOT taking.

"I don't drink" - puzzled looks from others, disgust.
"I'm sober/recovering" - no questions asked, respect.

Imagine giving up smoking or taking drugs and family members and random people give you a puzzled look or say go on, just one at a party. That's the problem with alcohol.

Seriously if someone thinks you are being disrespectful to refuse to drink, then they don't deserve your respect.

Weird how when people drink alcohol they're "a chill guy" and "hangs out at the bar often" but when I drink it it's "extremely unsafe work ethic" and "I need to leave the laboratory"

It's honestly crazy how alcohol is the one drug that requires an explanation not to use it. This video perfectly highlighted the dangerous social contract weβve all signed. So much truth here.
