  This is such an interesting conversation because I feel like there’s so much nuance to this topic. The idea of being extra polished or careful as a person of color just to avoid being judged differently really stood out to me. Definitely tuning in for this one

  Brij is correct about what he’s calling high etiquette, which had its origin in European nobility. There were a thousand subtle rules you had to learn through absorbing it and through actual instruction by governesses that made attempts at social climbing very difficult. Great dramas have been made about this! It became a filter for keeping lower classes out.

  Wow! Brij is super insightful. I agree with his assumption that the rich started the practice of etiquette and continue to embrace it, possibly to highlight and flaunt their wealth.👏🏾👏🏾

  Well, at the start brij sounded rude and argumentative. By the end he is the one who made sense by speaking the most underrated and enlightening theory of rich people connection with etiquette.

  Friends and family deserve respect too - there’s a line between respectful etiquette and good graces versus pretentiousness - perhaps Brij is railing against pretentiousness 🤷🏽‍♀️

  I’m an Asian mom of 2 boys & etiquette is big for us, regardless of anything. And hygiene is big as well! Showering everyday is a must.

  No Brij:  when you go to friends house and his parents are there.  You should dress and act appropriately

  Brij, you’re absolutely right. Those rules may have made sense for the time they were created, but times have changed. Life can be mentally and physically exhausting, and sometimes we simply don’t have the energy to worry about what to wear or how to look just to please others. I think we should first dress for ourselves, feel comfortable, and be happy with who we are. ❤️

  The sooner everyone realizes that Zarna is always right about everything, the easier life will be. I also loved what Shalabh was saying about Japan. The respect they show to their fellow man is just lovely. A lot of it does come down to respect for others.
