HERE IN BULGARIA ZIL-130's are still working hard every day in the jobs people don't want to use nice new trucks for - the hard, horrible jobs like demolition rubble and logging in the mountains

Fun fact in my Cuban home town the local fire engine and line men have original ZIL-130s from Soviet times, surprisingly well preserved too.

My now deceased father worked on a collective farm, he was a truck driver. His car was the same Zil 130. Sometimes he would take me with him to work. We would transport grain and drive back to the field. The neighbor boy had told me that if you drive a car at 100 km/h, the car and the people in it would become invisible. I said, Dad, drive 100 km/h. He replied, I was already driving at a hundred. We were not invisible :D
Once we were waiting in the field for the combine to fill the box with grain. I was very thirsty. Dad had gone somewhere. I found a bottle of clear liquid in the car. I drank it. I threw up. It was my dad's bottle of vodka.
Food was brought to the field in a UAZ bus at lunchtime. The food was very good. I remember that everyone smoked and there was ash from the smoke in my food. Goulash tasted very good with the ash too.
In the winter, my dad would take the Zil engine to pieces. I went to see it with excitement. The garage was dark and there were pieces of engines everywhere. The men played cards, drank vodka and repaired equipment. Many died young from alcohol. My father lived to a very old age, although he was also an alcoholic and smoked like a chimney.

Those were the days!

Drove both the 130 and the 131 back in the army some 23 years ago, that petrol V8 sound is unforgettable.

An interesting fact is that the colors of the truck (white and blue) were not chosen randomly. In the USSR, there was a commission that assigned colors to a variety of things, houses, trucks, electric trains and other. There were also psychologists who helped to choose the most pleasant colors for a humans - and that's why gentle tones were chosen.
And they were not mistaken. His blue-and-white cab is still very nice to see on the street, the childhood truck that brought us food and toys to kindergartens. c:

Used to hate these archaic hellish, dirty trucks.
Now, looking at them in your vid, they brought a tear in my eye. The feeling is not only nostalgic, but the shear practicality the model so robustly continued to display over the decades, which helped build and modernize half the world.

My dad bought a brand new 1978 F-600 Ford 3 ton truck when I was a kid, it was pretty similar with a V 8 gas engine. These kind of vehicles didn't change much in the 60's till the early 80's even in the west.

I live in a former Soviet country, and I remember growing up as a kid, these trucks were everywhere and in all shapes an sizes. This was basically the swiss army know of trucks here at the time. Super robust, stupidly simple, and parts were everywhere.
Anyone who did any kind of business usually had at least one of these trucks.

Four years ago, there was a video of a ZIL-130 truck made in 1986 with just over 570 kilometers in it. The owner bought it from Bulgaria it was army surplus.

This truck has a very special place in my heart since it's been featured in one of my favorite games: mud runner and snowrunner.
