I would never live in an HOA, but I'd be pretty much fine with the concept of them if they didn't have the power to take possession of someone's home. That should not be allowed.

I feel like I won the lottery. I love my HOA, seriously. I also live amongst decent and honest people where everyone knows everyone. We never have problems like this

Per Robert's Rules of Order (RRO), Rich's vote prior to the meeting having taken place is probably not valid. RRO takes into account that a motion may differ even slightly while proposed in a live meeting or any supposed debate, and a vote left prior to that cannot account for those potential changes. And voting on behalf of someone else is 100% not allowed - it cannot be done.
