This is just the beginning. It just happened that it started in Japan. The growing economic despair around the world will make more people to simply isolate themselves from the society.

The problem is bullying. Bullying is different in Japan. Bullying is way more psychologically cruel and "affective." Japan needs to regulate this issue; otherwise, it ain't going away. Japanese culture seems to favor bullying in order to get everyone in line. The bullying has got to stop. Bullying is doing the exact opposite of cohesion.

Im a truck driver in America, I can really relate to this. This career involves alot of solitude, which I enjoy now. In society I wasnt successful. Doing this so far (it is such a different way of life from how most people live), so far thankfully I've been doing well. It's strange, a part of what makes a person successful is contingent on how society defines success. People that cant function in society could possibly flourish if the society happened to develope in a different direction that happened to be more aligned with their personality.

Hikikomori exists in America, too. I'm one of those people and it was a choice because I just don't like the company of others and prefer to be alone or at home. This is partly due to bad experiences with people and me being Autistic.

I should have nothing to complain about my job in the US... It pays decently and is flexible. But as an introvert, after the job, life and family obligations, there is simply no energy or "gas in the tank" left over for socializing, and going outside is simply exhausting. I've often joked that becoming Hikkikomori is my goal - finally getting the resources to allow me to retire early, live on my own and do what I like. But I'm not sure if that is some form of acceptance and making it work for me, or if it's inconsiderate to joke about something that is a real problem. And in any case, if I succeed in retiring early, I can ironically seeing myself socializing more, because then I'd have some energy left for it and time to recharge alone after...

Problem also is that SOMEONE has to be unique... the individuality and unique ideas that were found in japanese companies were find by those striving with their unique ideas.

Just feedback - using AI images at the start made me think the entire video was AI generated and I clicked off immediately. I only came back to check the comments to see if anyone else noticed before realizing you might actually be human.

I find this unimaginable . The very idea of living utterly alone is horrifying to me . I make a decent middle class income and can easily afford my own place but as a single guy I choose to rent rooms in people’s houses and live communally rather than alone . I grew up as one of ten children and always had to share bedrooms so the idea of living totally alone is unnatural to me and is my own version of a living hell

I live in a small city in the Netherlands and I can relate to this sadly..
Even though I have neighbours they feel like strangers and it leaves you feeling
isolated still.. I wish there was a strong sense of a close community that is lacking
but I'll keep on trying to network and socialize in any way in my environment..
Would help if I had more close friends nearby or once I own a car

I'm on benefits in the UK, I don't go anywhere or do anything for many reasons, it's not that I don't accept myself, I know my situation and my reality, I know I can't work because I tried for over a decade with extremely negative results that have left me with permanent physical damage so I'm fully aware that this is how I have to live my life.

The reason I don't go anywhere or do anything is because of the stigma around being on benefits, I am scared that if I am seen to be able to socialise at all that it will be used as a justification to remove the financial support that I need to live.
