Can a Patch Fix Control Resonant?

I like that Rob can't wrap his head around the idea that the Patterning is adding random paintings to the world and just blames it on reusing assets.

something that stuck out to me, with regard to the writing sometimes feeling off, is that dylan doesn't have internal monologues or narration, which has been a thing remedy has used going back to max payne. and it's not that you don't get that ever in resonant, but it's almost entirely, as was mentioned, talking over the radio to someone else. that means there's a lot less of dylan expressing himself, thinking about what he's seeing and doing, and instead a lot more factual, "hey, i found this thing" and a response of "ok, try going to X place or try doing Y thing." jesse talking to polaris, because polaris doesn't actually speak back verbally, ends up telling you a lot about what jesse thinks and feels and what her personal motivation is. same with alan wake's manuscript pages and max payne (as well as alan wake) occasionally just narrating in the past-tense directly to the player.

that, along with a lot more writing focus on the FBC itself and a lot less on the weird shit the FBC is encountering ends up, to me, feeling more reminiscent of relatively generic open world game dialogue, and a less of the remedy charm.

IIRC the original Control also has a lot of loot grinder/MMO feel with its progression. Procedurally generated monster killing side quest notifications can pop in the middle of main story missions. Objectives where Jesse defend a point or kill several hiss monsters to fill a bar were prevalent. I haven't played Resonant, so I'm curious what's different between it and the original Control in terms of quest design.

man, I just really hope Rob makes it to the third act. I wasn’t quite as harsh on it going in, but I felt a few things he said, and man, I just do not feel those things anymore.

It was my impression that the first boss and the first possessed bus mini-boss had far too much health. It really highlighted how limited the combat was at the start of the game.

I’ve played every remedy game with the “one hit / god mode” setting because I found every encounter too frustrating and wanted to see the story and felt the game was in the way. Control initially didn’t have that setting and I was very glad when they added it, I think every game should have that because of accessibility.

Misleading title, this is not a review of the game.

At the end there you can tell they are carefully skirting around the fact that a lot of reviewers are often prone to falling for hype and giving false scores simply due to the franchise or developer. They don't want to throw their colleagues under the bus but it's one of gaming's worst kept secrets.

I love the first Control but I just don't think it is as good as people keep saying it is and I don't think it is significantly better than this game. That first game had a lot of the same issues and the sequel at least fixed some things. Again I love the first Control but people keep placing the first game on this pedestal and I just don't see the big difference in quality between these games. I agree that the notes are less interesting but most of that content is given to NPCs or delivered through dialogue choices. I wouldn't be surprised if Remedy wants to move away from relying to much on notes/audio tapes.

One thing I always disagree with Janet is doing full judgment on a game without finishing it. She does this on the Minnmax show as well. While I highly disagree with her views on FF7 Rebirth. At least she finished the game. So I want to hear her opinions on it.

But her hating on Control Resonant without seeing the ending, is a weird way to just completely dismiss the game. It’s like if I was watching a movie and I just walked away. Then my opinion is in fact less valid than someone who did.
