  The owners should be responsible for the cleanup. Wealthy people built on the sand by the ocean.

  I’ve been there as a visitor. I’ve walked the beaches and walked past abandoned houses. <br>What struck me was the dangerous shards of rebar and nails and electrical wires (not hooked up) on the shore. I walked by one rusted shard and made note of where it was so I could point it out to my husband. When I returned a short time later, it couldn’t be seen as the sand had slightly covered it. <br>Who doesn’t love to walk the coast line when hanging out on the beach. <br>I highly suggest that in Buxton, NC or the areas around it where homes have fallen in to the ocean, do not walk the beach shore! So many hidden dangers are all along that area because these houses are left with all their dangerous debris, to fall right beneath your feet. <br>I do not understand why these homes haven’t been removed before they are obviously going to succumb to the ocean. <br>I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a website dedicated to those who’ve been seriously hurt from the dangerous debris that Hatteras Island has somehow allowed to fall on to their beaches and coast line.

  If the owners know that it&apos;s over then salvage what you can and recycle before more pollution enters the oceans. Foolishness will be repaid by unrepairable ego that destroys nature. May it all perish in the surf and build someplace else.

  It does seem perverse that the insurance does nog pay out until the house collapses from rhe surf. We live in South Carolina and have been to theOuter Banks for vacations &nbsp;since I was a child 60 years ago, and even then everyone knew it was just a glorified sand bar. But in those days, people had small bungalows on stilts and there were family owned motels that were reasonably priced and easy to relocate if needed. It was only with the influx of millionaire second home buyers that these residents wanted sea walls and other mitigation to fruitlessly try to fight the ocean. No taxpayers should fund any of it.

  See the homeowner on the left. Got what he wanted. He told his wife I&apos;m tired of walking upstairs every time to walk into the house. So why don&apos;t we just wait and let mother nature help us out now. Look at that. We can walk right into the house with no steps
