I took two graduate courses in architecture. This aspect of windows was not covered and should have been.

In the morning I so enjoy waking through out the house and pulling back the curtains to let the light shine in. What a blessing.

Perhaps the next story on Glass should be how they created tempered / safety glass and its millions of uses from automobiles to glass cook ware, laboratory glass ware or eye glasses so many stories

What a great history of the window. I had no clue about the suffering up to the present, when anybody could now afford it.

These 'forgotten' Roman glass-making skill perfectly illustrates how some people, in present day, claim aliens built ancient structures, when in truth, it is simply that we forgot the craft.

Glass has come a long way today with bullet proof glass and plane and car windshields

Glass bottles appeared quite early and broken bottle shards were assembled into glass works. Deluxe transparent panes were unaffordable except in Venice (which continued the Roman art of making them) but not shard glass works as they were homemade. Hence the invention of stained glass church bays. Even in Rome stained glass windows were preferred for monuments.

Great video, thanks! In the cathedral of Reims some of the stained glass windows damaged during WW2 were replaced by incredible Marc Chagall designed windows. Beautiful !!

I still remove my windows and box them up to carry when I go on holidays. Just in case.
