The number of times greed and convince have lead to replacing stuff that works well for stuff that is clearly inferior is absolutely mind boggling.
😵‍💫

Have you ever heard of the World War II US government film called hemp for victory? Some of our founding fathers grew it and farmers in Oregon at this time grow it commercially. The hemp for victory film was in the Library of Congress but it had been lost and an old friend since passed is the one that found it blessings

I imagine that the real reason that hempcrete was illegal in the US is the same reason that solar water-heaters were outlawed in California - because it challenged an industry that the politicians were investing heavily in (the electric company, in the case of California).

I love this channel! Can you please do a video on mycelium insulation? It's a modern version of moss/loam insulation.

Very interesting stuff. Performance is equivalent to Rockwool in R-value, flame prevention and mold resistance.

It can be grown in bins in your garage for pennies per square foot.

the easiest way to get around the fact that this insulation cannot be used for structural parts is another building practice we like to use here in Europe: insulation does not go inside the walls but on the outside of them. as beautiful those old open timber frame houses can be, they lack an entire layer worth multiple tons of thermal inertia creating material
