Every (seemingly) stupid rule at a jobsite is born in blood.

I'm sorry, but if there's even the most remote chance of me being cooked alive if I don't follow safety protocols, I'm following that sh*t to the T...skipping like 4 steps out of convenience in that scenario is crazy to me.

Whats sad is that often times, in these kinds of industrial accidents, it takes MULTIPLE points of failure for these horrific outcomes to occur. Yet, they still seem to find a way. Ppl just get complacent far too easily. As someone who works in a factory setting...i see it EVERYDAY. So many ppl just dont have a very resilient sense of self preservation

I very much doubt it was only Reinhart who wasn't following safety protocols in that company.

I used to work at a store that had a big cardboard compactor. It always gave me just a twinge of discomfort to be around. Not enough to affect me day to day, but just this little murmur in my lizard brain that was always like "that thing will kill me efficiently and emotionlessly" when I'd use it. It's easy to normalize deviation or cut safety corners, but sheer mechanics do not care if you had good intentions or were in a hurry or whatever. You could never want to hurt even a fly, but an oven will heat, a compactor will press, and a blade will slice without a care.

I worked part time in a factory that washes and dries hospital clothes. Once a week we were to clean "the oven" I called it. Wet clothes on hangers would go through it daily and we had to clean it. Boy was I taking every safety measure to the spot every time I had to go inside. I was terrified each time, even though there were no doors that could close on me. But I would be out of there the second I heard something happening outside because I wasnt about to be cooked alive. Scariest and most uncomfortable thing in the job.

I worked with small to very large printing presses and witnessed too many accidents. Most of the time it was people showing bad judgement. Countless missing fingers. The best sign we had on some of these machines was, "Caution: this machine has no brain use your own".

I'm a welding professor. I teach a class about how to use a welding robot. The first thing I show my students is that the robot has no problem knocking them flat on their asses. I was almost knocked unconscious by it once, by bypassing the door sensors since I needed to get a better view of it while it was moving. From that point on, my first demo I show my students involves me wearing a football helmet, and putting a boxing glove on the robot, then getting in its way.

My favourite scary sign is the one that reads "this machine cannot distinguish between metal and flesh" gives me shudders every time
