guys I have to correct myself, as many of you have pointed out - my understanding of 'discovery' in US law is wrong! this is what it actually means:

through 'discovery', anything they would provide to FIDE could also be used as evidence. So, Magnus holding out because of discovery, means that he didn't want his evidence sent FIDE to be used for Hans' lawsuit.

We have been cheated by the ending. I'm still disappointed.

You've found a great niche – we've long been missing a chess channel that doesn't feature YouTubers playing, or analysis of open games, but rather a channel that features chess-related news, controversial topics, and interesting stories. In other words, topics related to chess, investigative chess journalism. Your last two videos are world-class! Cheers lass!

Great video, just a couple missing points. And saying Hans didn't have an impact on the chess world since then is completely unfair, because he was blacklisted from most of the big chess tournaments, because of the accusations. Yet he still managed to climb up to being #12 in the world.

Missing information:

Magnus losing to GM Alisher Suleimanov another young GM, this time from Kazakhstan, and later implying cheating, and saying it was suspicious Suleimanov was allowed to wear a watch.

Hans being the brand ambassador for PlayMagnus USA.

Great analysis of both the documentary and the cheating. You continuously answered many of the questions I was getting troughout the video 👍

(I'm halfway through the video so sorry if this gets mentioned later)

There's a Dutch chess podcast called "De Schaakpod" hosted by Lennart Ootes (among others), and in the most recent episode (33), they talked about the incident between Magnus and Ootes. Ootes says (loosely translated from Dutch by me):

"I've watched the documentary with great interest, because, well, I was in the room where it happened." (...) "I had a small part to play in this. Magnus came up to me during the game. I was working at the Sinquefield Cup as photographer and DGT operator. I had my computer in the playing hall, connected to the internet for DGT purposes. I was taking a lot of photos throughout Magnus' and Hans' game, since, you know, this was their first time playing in a classical game and all. Hans was chewing gum throughout the game, which I would normally judge as not very professional. But, you know, Hans was playing the world champion and he was just chewing gum and blowing bubbles, which as a photographer I found pretty cool, so I stayed around their board a fair bit. Around the end of the game, just before he resigned, Magnus came up to me and said something like "If you take photos of a specific game, that is a massive tell", as if I could be giving players hints by doing this."

He goes on to elaborate that he didn't really think that Magnus was accusing him of anything, more that he just did this to let out some frustration. In any case, for those who speak Dutch, it's well worth giving the episode a listen!

Thank you for actually starting with a summary of what happened, instead of assuming we all just know.

Great journalism - I watched to the end and commenting for the algorithm. Also, regret not stopping by your home country of Montenegro, since I've been to like every other country in southern Europe, live in Croatia, and always hear great things about Montenegrins and their beautiful country.

Love the video. The smash-cut at the end leaving us without your take was quite the rug-pull!😂
