  as a 15 yo i snuck into the backstage area of a jazz club after a holdsworth concert, just to tell him i liked his music, i was like &apos;i wish i could play like that&apos; and he actually sat down with me and gave me a 40 minute lesson, for free. i&apos;m still humbled to this day. then there&apos;s people like this selling a dodgy course for 500 quid, idk

  I’ve been studying jazz for a year now. One of the main things I hate about the experience so far is all the hocus-pocus bullshit that’s on the internet now. “This one Wes Montgomery lick will change your playing forever” - all this “get rich quick” shit. To talk about the music this way and trying to sell “get good quick” courses or whatever…It’s disrespectful to the music, the greats, and black culture. It’s not supposed to be academic but people like this slip into the scene somehow.
